What's Inside
This book is dedicated to all the ‘parents’ who wants to see their child grow and prosper.
High in an oak tree
High in an oak tree, gentle and warm,
Herman the parrot was safe from the storm.
His nest made of twigs rocked soft in the breeze,
Cradled by branches high in the trees.
But one windy morning, the sky turned gray,
Leaves rattled as dark clouds rolled their way.
Then whoooosh! came the wind with a wild, loud shout,
It lifted poor Herman and blew him right out!
Down he tumbled past branches and sky,
Flapping his wings, too young yet to fly.
He called for his mama, but no one was near,
As Herman fell softly, his heart full of fear:
He made Herman a bed by the window’s
He made Herman a bed by the window’s glow,
With blankets like clouds and kindness to show.
He fed him each day, with care and delight,
And whispered, “You’re safe now, you’ll sleep well tonight.”
Soon Herman grew stronger, his feathers shone bright,
He chirped in the morning and dreamed through the night.
One foot stayed bent and one wing stayed small,
But his heart was the bravest heart of them all.
He couldn’t fly, like other parrots do,
But his dreams went twirling… right out of view.
He loved guitars,… oh what a sound!
At home Herman had free run of the place,
He waddled and chirped with a happy face.
He loved guitars,… oh what a sound!
He nibbled and chewed as he played around.
He wanted to swim with a shark in the sea
He wanted to swim with a shark in the sea, As adventurous as a parrot could possibly be!
But when he looked closer, with eyes open wide . . . It wasn’t a shark, . . . just a goldfish inside!

Mr. Rubin tells an encourage story about a unique Bird (Herman) and how a crestfallen parrot who overcomes serious challenges to embrace an adventurist spirit. The story is amazing and all the drawings in this book are just pure joy to experience. You can tell from the story how much the author loves birds and it tells a story of how anyone faced with wounds or disabilities can overcome and live a beautiful life. Herman’s adventure begins with a broken wing and details the life of a bird living in disability but finding his way with the help and love of those who care for him. It guides us to realize in life you can overcome challenges and have a wonderful life and experience. An inspirational book
I just had the opportunity to read The Adventures of Herman, a Very Special Parrot with my young nephew, and I can honestly say that, indeed it is a very special book. We both thoroughly enjoyed the messages conveyed in it. Presently, with the negativity that some social media sites may have on our children being in the forefront and some court litigations, it is comforting to know that there are still books like “Herman” that can resonate positively with our children. Like many children who are born with deficiencies, and sometimes find it difficult to be accepted by others, this book truly illustrates that those deficiencies can be overcome with love, inspiration, determination, and imagination. With those qualities as the book reflects, the outcome can very often mean acceptance and friendship. I was glad to learn that this book is but one of a series of other books that will follow. I highly recommend this book. Share it with your children and emphasize the values that it sets forth.

A Heartwarming Tale of Resilience and Love
The Adventures of Herman by Rand Rubin is a heartwarming story about an injured parrot adopted by a kind man. Though Herman cannot fly, he proves that being different doesn’t limit his happiness—he lives a full, joyful life surrounded by love and care.
As Herman adjusts to his new home, he forms a deep bond with his owner, who ensures he feels safe, valued, and never alone. As he can’t fly, Herman finds joy in simple things. He observes the world around him and engages with those he loves. His unique personality shines through his resilience and gentle spirit.
The story highlights themes of compassion, acceptance, and the idea that limitations do not define one’s worth. Herman’s journey reminds readers that love and kindness can transform even the most difficult circumstances into a life filled with purpose and happiness.

5 out of 5 starsA COMPLETE LIFE LESSON IN KINDNESS & IMAGINATION
Totally DELIGHTFUL adventure! A warm and ticklish read about a lovable parrot that inspires curiosity. Read and treasured by two retired kindergarten teachers, who would have loved to read it to their “kids.” All three of the adult readers in our family were thoroughly charmed by the author’s rendition of Herman. Congratulations to Childrens’ Author & Artist, Rand Rubin! MAC

A totally wonderful book.
This is a wonderful story told in rhyme about a parrot and his ‘dad’. Herman’s adventures are very sweet and up-lifting. A special part of the book is the positive message to the reader at the beginning of each chapter.
The artwork and illustrations are beautiful. I was elated to read that more Herman adventures will be coming.
If I could rate this book with six stars, I would. If you are looking for an enjoyable feel-good book for children and their parents, this is the one.
